Ik of Uganda: The Ik (called “Teuso” by their neighbors) are a small farming and hunting community squeezed between the large, powerful Karamojong and Turkana pastoralist tribes in Uganda. The Ik have struggled to survive in harsh ecological conditions of droughts and floods. They continue to fight against isolation and marginalization to overcome their difficult circumstances. Originally, they migrated to the area over 200 years ago from Ethiopia and settled in the highlands of Timu. The Ik are subsistence farmers who grow tobacco, maize, sorghum and more as well as keep bees and hunt. The Ik keep to themselves and are traditionally peace-loving people. Pray that they would know true peace and grace from Christ Jesus. Lift up the translation efforts to be effective and clear so that they may understand and know God’s word to them in their own tongue.
