Mike is an 0 MBB who is gifted in working with Bible translation. He is key in helping organize the O Jesus film dubbing. There have been many delays – so pray for God‘s timing and the right people willing to dub the voices. And pray that the work may be completed accurately and well, and that the O Jesus film will be a tool God uses to advance his Kingdom in O land.
May they trust in Jesus
The name Abdi means hope or trust – and is a very common name here. Pray that God would draw many of the of ABDI’s and their families to become strong disciples of Jesus who will make more disciples who will make more disciples of Jesus – beginning the O people group disciple making movement!
Bible study groups
Pray for 4 Bible study groups scheduled to meet this week – that they would not fear but hunger and thirst for truth and righteousness. Pray that the Holy Spirit would grant them understanding, and that many would respond to receive salvation through Jesus.
Young widow
Pray for a young widow woman, M, who has studied the Bible with us a lot, but doesn’t seem to have a real hunger to learn more and grow. Now she has been making some decisions which have led most of the village to conclude that she is living immorally. Pray that she will seek God‘s leading in all her decisions, and obey and be pure, and wholeheartedly decide to follow Jesus and become a strong disciple!
2 extended family groups to disciple.
There were 2 extended families groups interested in Bible study before Ramadan, but they wanted to wait until the fast finished. Now they’ve been giving lots of excuses. Meanwhile another family has agreed to 2 studies and invited another visit. Pray that God will get 2 groups going and that the studies will lead those families to receive Jesus as Lord and become strong disciples who will make more disciples!
Night of Power
Ramadan is coming to an end for our Mu$lim community here. Tonight is the 27th day of Ramadan, known as the night of power. Tonight, while Mu$lim’s are diligently trying to please God and hear from Him, let’s pray for the people in the world of Islam, and specifically for many O here to have revelations, dreams and visions that will lead them to Jesus, and cause them to seek for Jesus and receive Him as Lord and Savior!
Conviction and transformation for the O.
Many of our close O neighbors and those from far away who come to our clinics continue to hear the Good News. As they seek forgiveness through their Ramadan fasting, may God convict their hearts of their need for His grace through Jesus to forgive their sins, and transform them to hunger and thirst for His truth and relationship with Him! Pray this specifically for 2 extended families we’ve been sharing with, F&H and SG.
Hard hearts
The O do not like the idea of social distancing- most refuse to stop shaking hands in greeting, saying that it shows a lack of faith in God not to touch. They’re quite convinced they’re right. Hard hearted even! Pray that God will soften hard hearts to His eternal truths of salvation through Jesus alone! May the Holy Spirit draw many into His kingdom of light while they still have the opportunity to receive His grace in all of His truth.
Debating
Sharing the gospel with the O in a little different way – including the story of the two kingdoms, light and darkness, has really resonated with many O people who say they want the light! Pray for two family groups who are debating whether they are willing to study this story more in depth. Pray that they will choose to study God‘s word, and seek to find, understand and receive God‘s gift of light through Jesus.
Response!
Praise God for several women who received the gift of salvation! Now for challenging follow up, especially for the ones who live far away! Pray for Ex, New Mom, and her 3 guests to tell others the Good News they’ve heard, and to hunger and seek for more Truth and to talk much with God.
3 new contacts
Pray for 3 new contacts for the team and believers – for discipleship and facilitating Bible studies through them. So many seeds are planted regularly among the O, pray that God would draw them to respond and receive and start the disciple making movement now – in 2020!
Bring the Kids back.
A young believer had an ongoing ministry with neighboring children who would come to her house in the evenings to read an O Bible story book and talk. Recently the kids stopped coming- she doesn’t know why. Pray that the kids would come back to hear more.
Receive the greatest gift
Z is a highly respected woman in our communities who knows the Gospel well and has regular exposure to reading and hearing God’s Word -yet she remains resistant. Her children, M&N also know and even have memorized much Scripture through Kid’s Club. Pray that God would get their attention and they’ll open their hearts to His grace in all of its truth and receive Jesus as the greatest gift ever.
Pray for healing
An O believing family had a miscarriage this week. Pray for God’s healing physically and emotionally, and that spiritually they will grow in their faith and relationship with God as He holds them close in this hard time. Pray for the O communities around them who have such deep needs for healing from Jesus: “Oh Lord, stretch out your hand to heal where there is need among the O, physically, emotionally and most of all spiritually to come to know Jesus as their Savior, Healer and Deliverer!”
Unity
Pray against the schemes of the enemy to bring division and strife among 2 families of believers. God knows the details. Pray for them to choose the way of Jesus- forgiveness and grace for those who’ve offended us, as we’ve also been forgiven and given grace even when we didn’t deserve it.
prayer for O
Pray for our clinic workers who are involved in regular Bible study – pray that they will respond to God‘s word – “Yes Lord, as you promised that your Word will not return empty and void, but will accomplish all that You have planned and purposed for it. Thank you for the ways you are going to work this out in O-land.”
Lead Mike
Praise God that Mike is a strong long-standing O believer. Pray that God will lead him clearly for every step of decisions regarding becoming a Bible translator, and that he would be able to keep his family, fellowship and witness in the village with our team if he becomes a translator. His wife needs prayer to give whole hearted allegiance to Jesus. Pray that she would grow in her faith, knowledge and relationship with Jesus. Pray that she would put God first rather than continuing to try to please her Muslim family.
Key Couple
Pray for Jake and Sadie, a strong believing O couple – they’re soon finishing AIC missionary college training and they are seeking for the best and the most effective ways to do out reach among their people. Pray that the Holy Spirit would anoint them with his wisdom and guidance and that they would be real catalysts for other O who would become disciples of Jesus. Jake recently lost a sister in childbirth, pray for God‘s comfort and sustaining – and that this too would be used miraculously by God to draw many to himself from their all Muslim extended family.
Hard hearted
“They’re so hard hearted!” This is the observation from our recent 5 – week volunteer. “They listen well, but then they just don’t come. We need to pray that they remember what they hear, and that family groups would come to Jesus together!!” Please pray with us from Ezek 36:26, ‘May God give the O new hearts, and put a new spirit in them; Oh Lord, remove from them their hearts of stone and give them hearts of flesh (which are soft and responsive)!’
Response
It’s now September and the Good News continues to be shared broadly in O-land. Persevere with us in prayer that many O will respond and a Disciple making movement will begin in 2019! Pray for boldness, wisdom, perseverance, joy and encouragement for all of the outreach team and believers in the midst of many challenges.
Scripture engagement
Lots of God’s Word is available to the O people on memory cards they can use in their phones with 100 chronological Bible lessons. Pray that people will not misuse them, and that God’s Word will cut deep to convict, teach, and train. Pray for God‘s leading and wisdom for meetings today between mission leadership, Bible translation leadership, and our team for all decisions concerning upcoming O Bible translation and Jesus film dubbing into the O language. Pray that God‘s Word will go forward with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction.
Kids’ club
Grand finale Kids’ Club final day in O-land coming up! Around 180 in attendance. Our theme of ‘Sacrifices ‘ topped off today, with the other sacrifices all pointing to Jesus and The cross. Jesus as the Lamb of God being offered INSTEAD OF us paying our own punishment for sin (just like Abraham’s story with the ram). Pray for open, receptive and responsive hearts for the kids and their families. Praise the Lord for a wonderful team of helpers!
Choose Life!
Pray for A, who repeatedly comes right to the edge of choosing to believe, but then falls back in fear and doubt. Pray that he would surrender to Jesus and receive Him as Savior. Pray that Jesus would make A a mighty disciple, who will make more disciples of Jesus.
Open ears Lord
So much scripture is being engaged with by the O: Several group Bible studies weekly, scattered visits in many homes, prayer, scripture and gospel witness in the clinics, as well as many requests for the memory cards containing 100 chronological strategic Bible lessons and songs in the O language. Pray against the rulers and authorities and powers of this dark world that keep people in bondage and from really hearing, perceiving, understanding and turning to Jesus to be saved and healed. Pray that many O will respond to the gospel!
Breakthrough prayer for the O
Please pray, “Lord, please give the O eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to respond to the gospel of Christ.”
Join us in praying for that breakthrough of the first big O extended family group being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, so that they would become disciples of Jesus who will make more disciples of Jesus, who will make more disciples… Pray that a Church Planting MOVEMENT will begin in O-land! Now is the acceptable time, Now is the day of Salvation! (2 Cor. 6:2)
Scholarship students
Pray for 15 O secondary school students on church scholarships- that Christian teachers and fellow students will have a godly influence and powerful witness used by God to draw them to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior!
Grow strong
Mike, One of the very few strong O believers has a wife who still is very young and unsteady in her faith. In the past she’s been easily pulled away by persecution and extended family pressure. Pray that she’ll stand firm and even grow in her faith, relationship and knowledge of Jesus through the extra pressure of Ramadan! Pray that her and Mike’s relationship will grow healthy and strong too.
New Life!
Praise God that M and his wife and 3 kids have made a decision to receive God’s gift and follow Jesus! Pray for wise and intentional discipleship and enveloping them into the loving, though small, community of the body of Christ in their village. Pray for God’s protection – M’s father had threatened then relented from the decision to burn his son’s house.
Jesus film dubbing preparation
Pray for Mike and the team making final preparations on the Jesus film script/translation and that God will provide for all the details and the O speakers needed for the various roles. Pray that this will be a powerful tool for advancing God’s kingdom in O land.
Gospel seed sown widely
The Good News continues to be shared broadly in O-land. Pray that many O will respond and a Disciple making movement will begin in 2019! Pray for boldness, wisdom, encouragement and joy for all of the outreach team in the midst of many challenges.
A way forward
It has continued to be very tough for Cal in the village – he says he has no fear, but he does everything to keep his faith hidden. He did not speak up to his father to tell him he didn’t agree to marrying this Muslim girl who they’ve formally tied the knot with. In fact when the knot was tied – he did what they demanded, and bowed before the two fathers in the ritual prayers to prove himself a Muslim. Cal said he felt a great darkness come over him– but he has confessed and repented from that. It looked like the wedding was going to be in January. We just kept praying. Suddenly the girl’s father said she was too young and wasn’t yet ready for the wedding – so it’s postponed. Then a contact showed up from outside our tribe who has a formal technical school, and an interest in discipling young believers. A miraculous scholarship showed up for Cal covering about half his fees, and now both the family and all of us are thrilled that Cal is heading off for a one-two year certificate or degree in tailoring at this technical school and under the intentional discipleship of this pastor. Pray that Cal will grow strong and deep in his faith and relationship with Jesus, and that God will orchestrate Cal’s future to be a strong testimony of his grace and salvation
Christ’s power to heal
Many people are seeking prayers for their healing, and several people are getting healed. Let’s pray that Christ’s power to heal would be recognized by the people, so they keep coming to look for healing, instead of going to witchdoctors, shamans, etc. May this power of Jesus open these people to hearing the Gospel, pray that openness will continue, and lead them to salvation in Jesus.
Also pray for our clinics to get qualified nurses with a heart for outreach who will stay and have a fruitful ministry.
You prayed…He answered
PTL God has provided June, a new Mission- minded Clinical Officer who plans to join our team the first of the year, and after orientation will become our AIC T. Dispensary Nurse!!! Woohoo! She specifically said she wants to work in a Mission setting! And she feels that God has led her to us!
Christmas feast
The big Village Christmas Feast is scheduled for Christmas Day – Pray that the message of WHY Jesus came would come across clearly and people’s hearts would be penetrated to respond to the Truth of their need to receive God’s Best Ever Gift of Jesus as Lord and Saviour! PTL for great ‘Ako parties’ with 25-30 kids who we have fun and share the Christmas story with.
You prayed…He answered
On Aug 2, 2018 you prayed for this request: “Just a quick note to ask for your prayers for all the details of our planned Kids’ Club – starting this afternoon, and hopefully finishing next Friday. Pray for lots of lasting fruit from all the seeds that are being planted, and pray that God will keep the clinic load down, and especially no ‘on-call’ stuff during those important afternoon hours. And God answered: “A great turn out for the 5 afternoons of Kids’ Club (with no ‘on-call’ emergencies during those days). There were MANY seeds sown and many positive interactions – however not any open and lasting response, that we know of.” Please pray the seeds would sprout!
You prayed…He answered
On October 21, 2018, you prayed for this request: “One potential new extended family group are considering allowing the start/restart of regular Bible studies. One part of a group has invited a worker for Monday night. And God answered: “Though the date was changed, this meeting went very fruitfully. The elder who invited us had a very sick wife, who he brought us to see shortly after we arrived. After much good discussion, sharing the Gospel of Jesus grace as Saviour and also Healer, as well as a thorough medical exam of his wife, we really didn’t have a solution for his wife’s weakness and pain. They agreed that we could pray for her in Jesus name. We saw a little improvement that night, as she was able to sit up for the first time in a month. More reports each week of improvement, until we just heard that she’s able to stand and walk with a stick slowly to get around her home. We plan to do another followup visit soon, and the family remains very welcoming and open. Continue to pray that they would agree to host a regular Bible study for their extended family, and that God’s Word would convict them of their need for Jesus’ Salvation.” Praise the Lord.
2 groups update
Ongoing prayer is needed for the 2 family groups who expressed interest in studying the Word, plus a couple of other potentially interested people. Very positive relationships and input continues- yet they’ve not yet invited us or agreed to regular extended family group study. Pray Mk 4:20, that they would be like the “others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop – 30, 60 or even 100 times what was sown!“
Two groups
One potential new extended family group and another separate location family group, who have studied before but stopped due to persecutions, are considering and reconsidering allowing the start/restart of regular Bible studies. Both families have seen miracles in Jesus name, and God’s provision (from the followers of Jesus here) of loving help and care through illnesses. One part of a group has invited a worker for Monday night. Pray that both groups will choose to hear, and will be given understanding and choose to respond to God’s Word in obedience and with eventually receiving salvation through Jesus.
nursery school
Pray for the children attending our nursery school and their families. We’re teaching the word of God there. The Christian teacher was transferred, and the new teacher is Muslim. Pray for him, he’s also hearing God’s Word.
Coming on Sundays
Our team is having many opportunities to interact with people. We have started teaching games to a group of young boys. Some children are coming to our Sunday service, last Sunday we had about 19 children! Let’s pray that they keep coming. Also some men and women are frequently joining us on Sundays as well. Let’s pray that they keep coming and have ears to hear the word of God.
We’re sharing, discipling & visiting with many, but one man (*Ali) has been a regular every week. Pray for Ali and many others to respond and believe in Christ.
