Karimojong of Uganda: Alongside our audio Bible work, we’ve launched a new Bible storytelling pilot program. Every Saturday, around 60 illiterate church workers from various local congregations gather under a large tamarisk tree to learn Scripture by heart. A member of our team tells a Bible story as simply and factually as possible, repeating it word-for-word several times. After each retelling, we ask the group what they remember. By the fourth repetition, most participants know the entire story and begin retelling it to one another in pairs. From there, we discuss together how it applies to daily life, then repeat the whole story—application included—once or twice more. By the end, the Word isn’t just in a notebook (which many don’t have)—it’s in their minds and hearts, ready to be carried back and shared in their own Sunday services.
