The Chenoua Amazigh are one of Algeria’s least-known and most linguistically threatened Amazigh groups. However, they are not unknown to God. The Chenoua live primarily along the sea that borders the Chenoua mountain in the Tipaza province. Historically, among native North Africans, the Chenoua were among the most resistant to Arab conquests. Gradually, however, they adopted Islam.
The Chenoua are strong participants in the Amazigh cultural revival. Part of this preservation effort is their use of the Tifinagh script. An estimated 6,000 people speak the Chenoua language, mostly older generations. Young Chenoua increasingly speak Algerian Arabic due to urbanization and education policies.
Pray that Chenoua leaders, their young men and women, their elderly, and their children would have dreams and visions of Jesus.
Ask the Lord to exalt His name alone among the Chenoua.
Ask God to send laborers into the harvest among the Chenoua.
Pray that the Lord would burden linguists and translators to translate the Bible into the Chenoua language.
